Founder: Ryan Odenbrett
Ryan Odenbrett moved to Virginia with a full hunting resume from the Midwest. With years of experience under his belt, he had to learn a whole new set of rules and regulations now that he was in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He was able to adapt his already robust skills to a different environment, an exciting deer population, and to learn about new prey that he’d never hunted before.
When Ryan isn’t in the woods, he is a dedicated and talented actor who moved to Staunton, VA in 2014 to get his Master of Letters and Master of Fine Arts from Mary Baldwin University in Shakespeare and Performance. After three years of graduate school and two masters degrees later, Ryan stuck around the Shenandoah Valley for the beauty of the mountains and the friendships he had made.
Ryan founded Average American Hunter because he saw a lack of representation from the common outdoorsman in current television and social media. He wanted to share more than his excitement of hunting; he wanted to represent the experience of the everyday hunter. Rather than trumpeting the successes of wealthy, landowning, professionally sponsored hunters, Ryan decided to more truthfully highlight the triumphs - and occasional failures - of the little guy.
